Darwin Meyer, President welcomes you

Hi,

This is Darwin Meyer, current president of the Franklin County Historical Society. I just shot my first video for the Franklin County Historical blog. This is all new technology for me. I hope as you follow the blog you will learn about the history of Franklin County and what we have to offer.

We have a museum that houses items used by Franklin County residents the last couple of centuries. We have the first Rural Electric Coop generating plant west of the Mississippi that provided the first electricity to rural America in 1938. We have Leander Reeve house (Old Stone House) built in 1854 in which people lived until 1950. The Harriman-Nielsen Danish farm was given to the historical society by the two Nielsen sisters who lived there until their deaths in the late 90's.

We have a complete record of letters written between the sisters and their relatives in Denmark for close to 100 years. If you want to do geneology research we have the best resources in the area.

Come visit the 150th celebration of the Franklin County Fair and tour some of our sites including Pleasant Hill, right on the fair grounds, depicting life 100 years ago. Grandpa's Farm shows farming with horses, early powered farm machinery, including steam engines, thrashing machines, and more.
